Train or Bus to the DoubleTree Sacramento
Bus (SMF Airport to the DoubleTree)
Take theSacRT Airport Express bus to Downtown L & 14th stop. Alternatively, take the YoloBus 42A to Downtown J & 4th.
From either stop, I highly recommend taking an Uber, Lyft, or taxi to the hotel. If you still want to take public transportation, use Google Maps to find the best route. (There are several combinations of buses & light rail that will get you to the DoubleTree, but the best option depends on exactly where you are and what time it is. Google does a good job of parsing the routes and schedules.)
Train (Bay Area to Sacramento Downtown)
This is not recommended, as it is slow and involves several connections. The Capitol Corridor generally connects the Bay Area to Sacramento. For people who live in the Bay Area, there are stops in the South Bay (San Jose Diridon, Santa Clara, etc.) and the Easy Bay (Oakland, Emeryville, Berkeley, etc.). For people arriving at one of the Bay Area airports, there are connections:
- Oakland Airport (OAK) is the easiest connection. Take BART's Oakland Airport Connector to BART Coliseum Station. Exit the station, and cross the street to the Capitol Corridor Oakland Coliseum rail station.
- From San Jose Airport (SJC), take the VTA Route 60 bus from the airport to Santa Clara University station, where you can catch the Capitol Corridor.
- From San Francisco Airport (SFO), take the BART red line to Richmond BART station. Exit BART, cross the street to Capitol Corridor's Richmond rail station. (Alternatively, you can take the blue line to Oakland Coliseum, but Richmond is closer.)
From your originating station, take the train to Sacramento Valley Station. From there, the best option is to take a 13-minute Uber, Lyft, or taxi ride to the hotel. Sacramento Regional Transit does operate a series of buses (use Google Maps to find available routes), but this is not recommended. It will be an hour-long journey (instead of 13 minutes), involve at least one transfer, and will probably involve some walking at the very end.
Inter-city Bus (Bay Area to Sacramento Downtown)
This is not recommended, as it is slow and involves several connections. Service is provided by Flixbus / Greyhound. There are 3 stations in the Bay Area, 2 of which offer direct routes to Sacramento — Oakland (near West Oakland BART station) and San Francisco (near the SF Caltrain station at King & 4th). Additionally, there is a stop in San Jose (in Diridon Station), but this requires a transfer in Oakland. For people arriving at one of the Bay Area airports, you can connect to one of these stations as follows:
- From Oakland Airport (OAK), take the BART blue line to West Oakland station, exit, and cross the street to the Flixbus station.
- From San Jose Airport (SJC), the best option is to take Uber, Lyft, or a taxi to San Jose Diridon station. Alternatively, take the VTA Route 60 bus to the Metro/Airport station, transfer to the VTA Green Line light rail toward Winchester, and exit at San Jose Diridon.
- From San Francisco Airport (SFO), take the BART red or yellow line to Millbrae station. Transfer to a northbound Caltrain San Francisco station, which is next to the Flixbus SF stop. Alternatively, take BART red or yellow line (toward Richmond or Antioch) to West Oakland station, where the Oakland Flixbus stop is.
From your origination point, take the bus to the Sacramento stop. From there, the best option is to take a 9-minute Uber, Lyft, or taxi ride to the hotel.
